Listen Up: What Wellness Podcasts Are Our Dietitians Listening To?
We know the feeling - long lines at checkout, hours of wrapping gifts, long drives to see loved ones. How many times can you hum the same old holiday tunes? Well, just in time for the new year we've asked our team of Registered Dietitians to dish on their favorite wellness podcasts. They've commented with an array of choices to keep you both entertained and knowledgeable this holiday season.
AMANDA'S PICKS:
Amanda Veneman, RD, LD, mom of 2, avid gardener, ice cream lover (veggies, too!)
1. Didn’t I Just Feed You Podcast - Not exactly wellness focused, but food focused. A couple of moms with ideas on feeding the kids - over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
2. Perfectly Preserved Podcast – Really important food preservation information in an easy to listen & learn format (for those of us who can’t focus enough to read print on paper, but can listen for hours…)
3. Trivia for Kids - If wellness and mental sanity are related, and they are, then this is a great one if you are traveling for hours in the car with kids. Fun for trivia loving adults, too!
BRITTANY AND SHAINA'S PICK:
Brittany Kuhl-Jones, MS, RDN, LD, dog mom, fitness enthusiast, loves trying new foods
Shaina Gross, MS, RD, LD, wife + mom of 2, new recipe lover, always eager to learn
Sounds Bites Podcast - When two RD's choose the same podcast, this one definitely deserves a listen! it's hosted by Registered Dietitian, Melissa Joy Dobbins. In the podcast she interviews subject matter experts on a variety of food and nutrition related topics. The topics are always really relevant and cover a pretty broad scope - from culinary to nutrition for children, athletes or older adults. Plus, the podcast makes the science feel simple and easy for everyone to understand and some of her episodes count towards continuing education credits for those who need!
DANA'S PICK:
Dana Lemke, MS, RDN, LDN, cat mom, plant mom, small town Wisconsin to big city Chicago girl
Food Heaven Podcast - The hosts, Wendy and Jess, are both Registered Dietitians and as an RD myself I love listening to other RD's discuss nutrition and other wellness topics in a way that is easy to understand! They cover topics like health at every size (HAES), intuitive eating, mental health and body positivity which are areas that I am interested in but could always use more knowledge on. The podcast started in 2015 and continued until June 2023 so you can imagine there are quite a few episodes to choose from!
TRACY'S PICKS:
Tracy Wilczek, MS, RDN, LDN, FAN, lover of food, rose, Bravo TV, and NYC (but I live in Boston!)
Food Lab Talk - In this weekly podcast, Google's Michiel Bakker interviews a visionary in the industry (food, philanthropic, nutrition, government, etc.) to learn about what they’re doing to impact and improve food systems. Why I like it? The questions are thought-provoking, the guests are well-spoken and passionate about what motivates them to work on innovative ways to positively impact food systems, and it’s a manageable 30 minutes.
