Black Futures: Continuing Our Black History Month Journey
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by Black Americans and recognizing their central role in U.S. history.
Each year, FLIK’s Entrepreneurial Council partners with the culinary and marketing departments to create a comprehensive strategy that amplifies Black voices and drives meaningful conversation for both our guests and our associates.
This year, our celebration continues to weave a story about the Black experience in America, focusing on Black Futures.
Married with the national Black History Month theme of “African Americans & the Arts,” our celebration showcases menus that highlight the bright futures of Black innovation.
Black culinarians have helped to shape the landscape of American cuisine since the founding of the United States, including a heavy influence on vegetarianism, veganism, and plant-based cuisine. (Read more here: How Black Chefs Shaped American Cuisine)
In our cafes and dining halls, guests will experience some of FLIK's Black chefs who are simultaneously carrying traditions forward while breaking molds and inspiring future leaders in the industry. Their hard work and the menus they've created work toward building strong Black Futures, continuing to stress the importance of Black wellness traditions.
Throughout the month, we'll also share their recipes with you to recreate at home.
By collectively dreaming and seeking out stories of Black Liberation and Black Joy that center on Black perspectives, we imagine a future without oppressive systems where Black folks have the opportunity to thrive.
