Beef and Mushroom Blended Burgers
If you’re new to art of grilling, the summer is a great time to learn by trying out some new recipes! Burgers are an American classic and there are endless ways to prepare them, ranging from not-the-healthiest to delicious-yet-nutritious.
This burger recipe tastes like a traditional hamburger, yet it’s surprisingly nutrient-dense thanks to the addition of mushrooms. Mushrooms are unique in many ways. Not only do they have a meaty texture that blends well with beef, they’re the only vegetable that’s a good source of vitamin D. Mushrooms are also rich in antioxidants and have been linked to better brain function, improved bone health, lower cholesterol levels, and a stronger immune system.

Beef and Mushroom Blended Burgers
Beef and Mushroom Blended Burgers taste like a traditional hamburger, yet they're surprisingly nutrient-dense thanks to the addition of mushrooms.
Serving size: 1 burger | Makes 4 servings
Ingredients
1 1/4 cup sliced button mushrooms |
8 ounces ground beef, 20% lean |
1/2 tablespoon canola oil |
4 whole wheat hamburger buns |
4 lettuce leaves |
8 slices tomato |
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the canola oil over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until tender and liquid has been absorbed, ~4-6 minutes. Allow to cool before continuing to the next step.
- Once mushrooms are cool, pour out any excess liquid and place in the bowl of in a food processor. Pulse a few times to roughly chop, then transfer to a large bowl.
- Add the ground beef and mix well. Scoop by ½ cup portions, and form into 4 patties. Cook on a skillet or grill until internal temperature reaches 165F.
- Assemble burgers with additional toppings as desired.
